Default 2000 RR Spindle Threads Stripped

The story is I purchased a 2000 Ram 2500 4x4 last fall and when the temps here started dropping a metal brake line burst. I replaced every line, most with cunnifer except for the rear axle lines where I used OEM. Anyway, while fixing this I noticed a RR axle seal leak. This is where I open up a can of worms as the 2 9/16 inch locknut was loose at first, but midway off became a bear. I changed the seal cleaned the hub, and bearings real nice, packed them full of grease. I bought a new locknut, and with my fingers crossed I hoped it would thread. Nope, the spindle threads are stripped at halfway. I broke my 2 9/16 socket and a 2 1/2 trying to get it to thread. Anybody changed a Dana 60 rear spindle that could shead some light? Are they pressed into the tube and if so, how do do get'em out? Thanks in advance.

Finally got around to finishing this project. I used a die kit(KASTAR 2577) to rethread the spindle(2"). Very happy with the result, the new nylock hub nut threaded perfectly. I would recommend to anyone taking the hub nut loose to clean the threads with brake cleaner before removing the nut. I think I could have saved myself $110.
