Cool Chipmunks under the hood!

Hey I got a annoying chirp coming from somewhere in the engine compartment. I put a new belt on and I changed the belt tensioner. I believe it could be my water pump pulley. After I put on a new tensioner I think it actually got a little worse! Maybe from the new tensioner putting more torque on the bad part. Any thoughts on where to look next. Also I dont believe it is coming from the alternator or the power steering either. I put a screwdriver tip on those and listened and did not hear it out of them.

Start spraying your pulleys down one by one with pb blaster, to find it.

That sometimes will allow the over spray to get where it needs to go, but if it is a noisy pulley, you need to spray around the inner ring while the engine is running. Be careful though, you dont want to get any of that on hot headers, or the fan.
Here this might help:Name: GM_Belt_12497698.jpg

lol when I 1st was this I though of the time I went to fill up the chain saw and the dam squirrels attacked the rubber thing that makes it easy to pour into the tank. Got a plastic one and they did the same thing. This winter theres going to be dead squirrels all over!

I've heard that people who have changed their belts have had squealing problems with just about any belt but the gatorbacks. I don't know this for sure as I haven't had to change mine yet, but it may be something to consider.

My vote is the idler pulley. I had chirping for a while, then the thing seized up and howled. After I replaced it the noise was gone (until the alternator went, but that's another story).

I think you are refering to the grooves issue. It seems like the belt for these trucks require a 7 groove belt, and most aftermarket belts are 6 groove.
Its something along those lines

Cool

Hey thanks for the help. It was doing it before I changed the belt and still doing it after i changed the belt. I then changed the tensioner pulley and as I said I think it got worse 1 day later. It now squeals the entire time I am driving and increases as my acceleration increases. I have not had the chance yet to spray the pulleys but I will Saturday. If the noise stops on one pulley does that mean the pulley is bad or the whole part the pulley goes to?
