Question 35'' tires 3.55 gears V 10

Does anyone have an opinion on which ratio would be best to switch to. 4.10 or 4.56?? Im leaning to 4.56. Do I have to change the carriar on the front and rear, or can I get thicker gears for front and rear. Am I gonna notice a huge differance in performance with the gear change?? Thanks for your time

I would suggest 4.56's as well, although 4.10's would most likely be fairly adaquate for highway driving/street use (maybe helms will chime in, I think he has that combo). As far as needing a new carrier or thick gears, I am not sure on dana 60's/70's. I know the Dana 44 does if the carrier is for higher gears than 3.92, but not sure about your axles... the company you buy the gears from will know for sure though.

Performance? HA, if you are used to driving with 35's and stock gearing, after you upgrade you will think you are driving a whole new truck. It is an amazing change in performance/drivability.

4.10s and 35s... that me, lol.

This combo is useable, but leaves some to be desired.
Your v10 has much more torque than my 5.9, so it may not be as noticable for you.

city driving is ok and highway cruising is also ok, but dont expect a racecar off the launch. you will want to turn off o/d unless you will be cruising at a good rate for a while or else it will kick out every time you put your foot on the throttle.

as soon as i put a load on its another story. i haul cars quite frequently (around 5000-6000lbs), and you end up seeing alot of full throttle situations. any hill at speed will require every pony you have under the hood.

i have given up doing any technical off roading in 4hi, there just isnt enough torque.

on the highway i see about 1400rpm at 100km/h (i think thats about 62mph)

if i were you i would look into 4.56s, im even entertaining the idea of 4.88s, but i havent done any research yet.

Do both at the same time not just one. Unless you have no plant for your truck to be a 4X4 for much long.

Yes you do. If you try to put it in 4 wheel drive with different gear ratios your transfer case will explode.

One spins faster and one spins slower. Than a bag from hell.

You guys are missing it, he wants to know if he needs different carriers to fit the lower gears... it sounds like he is knolegable enough to know he has to do both of them together.

How much does it normally cost to have a shop put 4.56 gears in, including all of the parts? Front and back obviously.

Thanks for the help guys but Olyelr is right. I am asking if I need to replace the carriers, or can I use thick ring and pinion gears??
