Default Lets talk tools

So as a "do it your-selfer" i need to pick up some tools so i can work on my truck. Im looking for an air compressor and impact gun etc. What do i need? I was looking at craftsman tools at sears, they seem decent with a good price. Do you think a 26gal with 5hp air compressor would be enough?

need to look at the cfm on the compressor it could be a 60 horase and a 200 gal but with no cfm its not worth much. sounds like it might be enough but on am impact they flow allot of air so check the cfm

when buying the air comp yes majohn is correct the CFM is critical but if you dont want to do the numbers game. just make sure you a twin pump/or double pump (which ever you call it) compressor it will build faster and wont run as long. air impact's,grinders and cutting tools take alot air. at 90 PSI it will go quick so you want the comp to keep up with what you have. craftsman tools are good life time warranty on all hand tools. air tools limited life time warranty sears sells ingersol rand air tools also ( IR ) theses will last you forever even if you use them everyday. plus you can rebuild them. Craftsman air tools cant get parts for, you have to send them back to be rebuilt. before we get into what tools to buy, the question is, what tools do you already have?

dont buy anything but IR for air tools, i run an automotive shop where they get abused daily and they are just bullet proof.

craftsman hand tools are great too. that compressor should be more than enough for a dys

Well since owning this truck I added to my collection of general tools. Wheel bearing hub nut socket set(Harbor Freight, online only-$39.00) Spindle rethreader die set(Kastar 2577-$110). Line wrenches, metric and english for the inevitable brake line burst(Harbour Freight-$10) Inch-Pound torque wrench for the tranny bands(sears-$79.00 and yes I know I got ripped). and a 5/16 8 pt socket.
