Valve Covers
I just got some new valve covers for my 97 dodge ram 360 v8 i know i well need new gaskets but will i have to reuse the old brether or can i just get one of those sweet chrome brethers with the little filter is there anything else i should now before i get to invalved.
on the side with the elbow and the hose up to the air cleaner, you can replace the elbow with a valve cover breather. be sure and cap off the port on the breather where you remove the hose. on my 01 this is the passenger side, but i've heard that earlier models might be reversed.
on the other side, you'll find a pcv valve that connects to the intake manifold. leave this in place.

I have heard the stock steel core gaskets can be reused. I personally change them. I've heard that on here and mustang forums though so its up to you. I need one of them little breathers. What size is the hole?
can't recall, but there are different size rubber grommets for the inner hole. mine were all hard as rocks, so when i had the valve covers off, i replaced them. the pcv and the breather might have been the same size, maybe 3/4 or 1". the little elbow to the air cleaner was smaller, maybe 5/8 or so. i think i bought 2 grommets for the pcv size and put them in both sides (maybe). i think i got them at the dealer for just a few dollars each.
Ah good to know. That was my next question. The one for my pvc was rock hard when I took it out. I was gonna see if anybody knew where to pick them up. If that's the case maybe I could use the breather I got that's the wrong size.
Thank you I'll have to look into that
