mine is pretty sturdy. I mean you can grab the bar and it doesn't feel loose at all and feels like it is a part of the frame. My top mounts are held on by attaching to back bumper lip, and the lower mounts use brackets to use the (body mounts?). My friend has one that just bolts to the bumper and it rattles. Mine is from westin.

In my opinion there fine if the purpose is to hold a set of off-road lights and give your truck a meaner appearance. They won't hold up to be a mount point for say a winch.

The Warn Trans4mer mount is sturdy. They have a winch tray option or you can get it without the winch tray.

i've seen the ones that go under the bumper like mine, the bumper mount and the ones that go through the holes next to the fog lights. the ones that go through the holes and attach to the cross member are the strongest i believe, but mine is pretty sturdy, i wouldn't hook a tow strap up to it though because a good jar might bend the mounting hardware. of course i have landed on it and tried to go up hills that were too steep and had it stop the truck quite a few times and its holding up just fine. mine is a lund, and i know the westin and big tex ones look good also. if you go with the under the bumper style you're going to sacrafice your approach angle and because of lower front end clearance. also if you buy one new you can count on 400 to 600 dollars.

I have a frame mount one on my truck and my boyfriend has a bumper mount on his. Honestly I prefer mine. It seems much more sterdy. The frame mounts are larger and definatly stick out further, and they are also alot heavier. Check ebay... they seem to be cheaper there.

Man something went wrong there. You got the frame mount and he got the bumper mount?

But I agree frame mount all the way.

Now that's what I'm talking about. If you're gonna put any amount of money into your truck you may as well put $1500 (plus about $800 for a rear bumper) into protecting it.
