I have a 95 ford escort with the 1.9 liter engine. It died on me.... I was driving it kinda hard a few nights ago because it was midnight and i wanted to get home from work. So i drove 15 miles on the freeway and it ran no problem. As soon as i got off the freeway it died on me. I have no clue what it could be... Im getting spark and fuel. I already replaced the crankshaft position sensor because i thought that's what it was. If you have any ideas it will be great. I know its a ford but i paid 500 bucks for it, when i use to spend that every month in gas....
If it were me I would double check the timing you may have stretched the timing belt or it may have jumped a few teeth.
Yep. I had a 1.9L Escort and one day, while going to work, the belt snapped between the 4/5 shift. Thankfully, it's a non-interference engine, so no damage done. Replacing the belt was a bit of a PITA.
Also, if the car has over 80K miles on it, replace the harmonic balancer. Ask me how I know When that puppy lets loose, it tears up the serpentine belt and the associated engine covers.
same thing happened to my friends old escort.... take the oil cover off and watch for the rockers moving while someone cranks it over... I actually stuck my finger in there on top of a rocker and that confirmed a broken timing belt.... I don't recommend doing that unless you are sure they aren't moving first though....
I was able to take the timing belt cover off, and the timing belt was starting to shred, there are steel wires everywhere. Thanks for the help time to replace it...
