Default Gas Sending Unit Questions

I have the infamous gas tank sending unit that doesnt read correctly at all. At a half a tank I run out of gas according to the gauge.

My question is, is any aftermarket fuel pump/sending unit going to correct my problem. I am not going to buy one from the stealership..so If you have a suggestion on the name brand and type sending unit, please let me know where I can get one. I just want to get an accurate fuel gauge reading....

They come as one unit. Don't buy a Carter , look on this site http://www.rockauto.com/ and buy anything but a Carter.

One other thing you might try first. Run it down to like a 1/4 tank and put a couple bottles of Techron plus in the tank. This works sometimes to clean the sending unit.

I don't remember the brand but I bought a cheap one from AutoZone a while back. It's worse than a stock one.

The other trick you could always resort to is your app. miles/tank. I know I get about 320 miles per full tank. Given this you could run to a good 275 or so and still be more than good and fill up.

Just a suggestions if you don't have the time or want to invest the $$$ into fixing it right away!

So run it down to where is just alittle of gas in the tank...and then pour in a couple of bottles of techron....and not fill it up?

I have used Sea foam in the past, would that not work..

it apparently didn't. sorry.

in some old HankL posts, he cited some cases where chevron cleaned the corrosion off the sending unit.

just put it in, the higher the concentration the better.
