You have a bad or intermittent connection somewhere if the brake pedal isn't tripping it as you noted above. What about, for diagnostic purposed, bypassing the brake pedal switch and seeing if that makes a difference? I'm thinking it could be in that switch.

I agree. This brake switch is a PITA to get set so the cruise and abs contacts work correctly. The brake light portion always works but the other two sets of contacts are very touchy on plunger position for some reason. (both the OEM switch and the new Napa switch).

I thought about taking the 12V from the brake light contact and sending it to a relay to brake the continuity for the ABS and the cruise. (The abs signal and cruise would be on a normally closed circuit - and seprate of course...)

Any comments on that OSS?

On a 97 you might want to change that sensor on the tail shaft. 98 and up it does nothing from what I hear, but since you have a 97, you never know. I don't want you throwing money at it either, and I would think if the sensor was bad you'd have some kind of speedo problem. But, you never know. Besides, replacing parts is easier than tracing electrical problems. LOL

Update...

Changed the OSS (output speed sensor)
Changed the brake switch
Did the DIY on cleaning the control switches.

Good vacuum
12V at the servo on the blue/red wire (the one that comes through the brake switch)
Brake switch verified to be working correctly.
Checked all grounding straps and ground wires that I physically could.

Might try a new servo next.

Sucks!
