You mean the CEL light comes on or the oil pressure light?

My truck has done this to me before and I checked my oil level and happened to be low. I didn't know it at the time but I was burning some oil (suspected plenum leak, just haven't had the chance to fix it yet). Sure enough, as soon as I put some oil in there it was fine.

I've heard an issue that our trucks have is that the oil pumps go bad/get weak or the pickup tube gets all clogged up.

My best guess is that it is either a bad sensor or the above mentioned things.

Good Luck!

That seems to be common on Rams for the gauge to drop. I would however also drop the pan and take a look at the pick up tube and make sure it is clean.

IMO stock oil and temp gauges are next to worthless. Stick a mechanical gauge on it and verify that there is a problem.

My 1999 Ram 5.2 was doing the same thing oil pressure fine one minute then drop to 0 with the light coming on and loud warning signal. Then after about 10 seconds or so go back up to normal
Just bought the truck and only drove 100 miles, the oil pump pick up tube was plugged. Cleaned it out and replaced pump since I had the pan off. Seems to be fine now.
Not sure why but I decided to buy the pump from the Dodge dealer and it was $76. Perhaps because I read so much about a regular pump vs high volume and just went with the original
