I just replaced my water pump and was wondering how long I should wait before adding coolant to the system. Does the rtv need time time dry> Thanks for any help
Add away. The rtv will seal the system as soon as you install the pump. The only thing it will do from there is cure. Don't worry about drying time. Your fine.
If you look on the back of the RTV tube, it usually tells you the dry time. RTV Black says one hour to set, and then about 12 hours (or 24, can't recall exactly) to fully cure, depending on air temperature.
After an hour, you should be fine to add coolant I'd say, but I wouldn't run the truck anywhere until its fully (or very close to fully) cured.
2 hours is a good time to wait. I always let it dry for 24 hours before adding any fluid. I figure, whats the hurry. If you don't wait enough, then you have to do it again.
