swappin' stereos
I want to install an aftermarket CD/stereo. Nothing overly elaborate, just something to play CD's in. Will be using stock speakers for the time being although at some point would like to swap those out as well. Just curious as to how much of a pain in the butt it is to remove/install stereo i.e. any additional connectors or universal attachments (one-size-fits-all type of stuff)...Thanks!

It's not that hard. If you have factory set up, get the wiring harness specifically for the plug, will make the install go a lot smoother. Same place you get the harness from will have the face plate adapter you need to make the radio opening more in line with an aftermarket. If you have the factory Infinity system (small tweeter speakers in the windshield pillar) you just need to make sure you connect the right wire to make sure the built in amp(s) work.
Black plastic surround on the front of the dash snaps off, just put your steering wheel to the lowest position. Factory deck is secured with like 2 10mm bolts if I remember right.

the radio is really easy with the adapter wire at walmart like hutch said, and there is plenty of room for it behind the radio so you won't have to cram any wires to make it fit. i suggest alpine for a radio, i have one in my truck and my camaro and love em.
if you mess with the door speakers you will have to remove the door panel and its held on by the push in style clips, i think there are about 13 in the front door and on a 8 year old truck they will probably not be re-usable. the dealership charges 3.50 each for them and that is insane. i went to a body shop and got 20 of them for like 3$. then i got a pack of 25 ford clips that were the same diameter for 5$ off ebay and those ones i had to make a cut with the band saw right down the center to make them fit. what i'm saying is that you'll probably have to buy more clips to put the door panel back on.
