Are you referring to using a pass. side grab handle on the driver side? If it works on the pass. side mounted the same way why wouldn't it work on the driver side???

If he can't weld. Or find another good way to attach it.

I would imagine that if the metal on the pass. side is strong enough to hole with the screws that hold em on then it should be just as strong on the driver side.

I'm 5'6 230 and I still hope my fat *** in my truck with no problems. Thats my exercise.
