Default Tranny issues

I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 V8 5.9 automatic. When I'm driving it take forever for it to shift gears, and makes it really hard to get on the freeway. What can i do, to fix it?

How is your fluid level in the trans? If it is low that could be your answer as to the long shifts.

You might want to check the tv cable adjustment at the throttle body to make sure it is adjusted properly. If that is not the issue I am not certain what your specific issue might be. There are some guys on here that are dodge techs who may have other things they know of to fix your problem or a search of the forum will most likely produce several results regarding this topic.

Lots of tranny issues here, including me.

TV cable, like speed says, is a possibility. You can search here for the finer points of adjustment, you basically want to make sure it is properly synchronized at the throttle body and trans ie when it is wide open on the tb is should be wide open on the trans.
You'll have to pop off the air filter assembly to get to it, if you have someone work the peddle [engine off] while you look under the drivers side and then on the tb, should be able to observe it in action, and detect if there are major differences in their action.
Still, search around here or see if someone chimes in here exactly how to adjust, even 1/8th of an inch more or less of slack in the cable can effect shifting, for better or worse.

Could be a stuck/clogged check valve restricting fluid flow, check this thread for a solution to that - Something you should do in any case, to avoid future problems.

I'm assuming you are pulling no codes or you would have mentioned them, quite a few folks here have had shifting problems with their tps sensor, no codes but replacing it solved their problems.
Simple 1 minute install, $35-$50

Govenor pressure sensor & govenor solenoid, both fairly easy replacements and not too expensive, are also failure prone, and the frequent cause of shifting problems.
Gotta drop the pan to get to them, but your filter could be clogged, too.
