Default 318 or 360?

My rig has a 318, and I have a 360 in my shed. I want more power, but power comes in various forms. I want strong, low-end power. Either motor will receive a stroker kit, a larger cam, larger throttle body, and light head work, so the 318 would become a 390 and the 360 would become a 408. This is a 4X4, and I plan on a NV4500 transmission to replace my NV3500, which bolts up to the 360 (but maybe not the 318, maybe an adapter?) in the future, as well as 37 x 12.5" tires. I want good pulling, good acceleration, and good fuel mileage. so, what do y'all think? I'm leaning toward the 318, personally, I guesstimate around 400 hp? BTW, this won't happen anytime soon, I have no money, but a guy can dream, can't he? Thanks!!

All that with good mileage, Silver is right, you want a Cummins diesel.

Either way (gassers), you can have lots of power, but your mileage will suffer.

You'll want the 359, just like Silver suggested.

Yeah, I've thought of this, but this machine is almost paid for, and I'm not gonna sell her, and it's not worth a conversion in my opinion. (Or is it? Honestly. But I'm not losing the rig.) I know fuel mileage will suffer, but some gains are worth the cost, and some aren't. If you gain mad amounts of power at the cost of two MPG's, in my opinion, that's worth it. If you gain modest amounts of power at the cost of half your MPG's, that's not worth it.

37's is getting close to new axles. And a set of 5.13 gears.

Look, friends, maybe I'm not asking the right question. I have a motor laying around, and I want to know what use I can put it to. I've tried to sell it, even for $400, but no one wants to pay for it, they want it for free. I'm certainly not going to give it away to just anyone, especially when I can possibly use it. I am entertaining the thought of storing it, and when my motor goes belly up, rebuild that one (the 360) while my motor's still kicking so my truck is down a weekend instead of a month. I've also thought of building a buggy out of it and a jeep body and frame, but money is not exactly plentiful. so I guess my question is: is this block worth saving for three plus years? Is there something I can use it for? Would a Cummins swap even be worth it? Why are we, as a planet, still burning fossil fuels? And where does your lap go when you stand up?

the cummins swap, if ya did a 12 valve wouldn't be too bad, considering how simple of a motor it is
