Default Wheel Bearing Went Out !

I was out with my friend Saturday night at this place called Kato. It's about 30-40 mins out of the town we live in and its pretty much a bunch of fourwheeler trails and it has some nasty mud holes. Earlier that night we winched out this other Dodge that had a 5" lift on 35"s that was in mud and water up to his head lights. Anyways...

It was about 1:30 when we were driving and started hearing this noise, no more than a couple mins later my friend stops and says his wheel bearing is done. He called a tow truck, waited about 40mins when the tow truck called him saying his truck broke down. The truck driver had to wait for another truck to come out to him so he could take that one. Finally the wrecker finally got to us about 4am. He tried hooking my friends truck up regularly and between his tires and wheel bearing there was only about 3-4" inches of the tires on the forks. The driver tried undoing the bolts so he could tow it another way but the bolts wouldn't move, we even tried vice grips and a pole and they just slid off rounding off the bolt. The driver tried hooking up my friends truck from the rear but when he tried putting his bar across the front for the dolly, it wasn't long enough.

Since that wasn't going to work we ended up using my friends high lift to lift up the front of his tuck, pushing the wheel back in long enough for the wrecker to hook back up to the front. This time there was maybe 5-6" of tire on the forks. After a 25-30mph slow ride back to town we were finally back at 7:10am...what a long night. The driver kept going on how this was the biggest thing hes towed and had to take pictures. It was a little hairy leaving Kato since its all rock road and you have to go down a hill to get back on the main road. The driver was creaping down the hill using his breaks and we just slid but all ended well.

My question is, do wheel bearings go out in these trucks as often as they do. I've had my truck for about a year and replaced one within the first 4 months of getting it. My friend in the pictures replaces his about every year but I'm sure his 37"s don't help either.

With big 37'' tires like that, of course they do!

Yesterday we were going to rip apart his truck so it would be ready for when the new wheel bearing came in today but it started to rain and today isn't looking much better either.

Yesterday we were getting prices on front lockers. I guess hes going to be going with one of those electric lockers so he can lock it in when he wants but now he needs to figure out his front gearing.

if hes going to spend the money on an e-locker, he should probobly buy a manual hub kit from EMS or Dynatrac. it will take his annual hub replacment costs from $600 to $60, just my $.02

Had one go on the drivers said at about 65mph when she went and let me tell you it was a hell of a ride.It took the brakelines with it so no brakes and a truck you cant steer.
