Default Heat/AC Issue 2001 Ram 1500

I am experiencing an issue that is more annoying in the spring/summer than in the fall/winter...

I cannot get the temperature to stablize...in this I mean I cannot set the ambient temperature and have it stay there...I have to continuously (in the winter) turn the temp up, and then down because it gets too hot...

Now, in the summer, I have to fiddle with this switch to get the a/c to run cold, turn the a/c on and off, etc...I am assuming that most likely it is a vacuum line issue...so...

I pulled out my Haynes manual and it states how to check the vacuum on the lines...the only issue is that "Vacuum is supplied to the heater/air conditioning assembly by tubing attached to the intake manifold."

I've read through similar posts and have noted that some have a diagram of the vacuum hoses on a label/tag under the hood...mine does not have this...

How do I determine where this hose is at, as I cannot seem to locate a diagram for this, and of course, the manual I have doesn't show one either...

Do I need to go to a dealership for this, if its even obtainable?'

Any and all directions, hints or suggestions are greatly appreciated...

Thanks...

The vacuum line you are looking for is just to the left of the motor if you are looking into the engine bay from the front of the truck. It runs through the firewall. To check your vacuum lines take starting fluid and start the truck. Spray the vacuum lines with the starting fluid and when the idle races up you found your leak. Like Laramie has stated in many other threads on this there is a check valve that you can install if you are having certain issues like having your vents change from any other setting to defrost when climbing a hill.

So the air coming out of the vents changes in temperature?
You sure your not having hot flashes???

I know that in the winter months, the heater will almost run me out, but being a smoker, I usually have the window cracked, and that will equalize the comfort temp.
