Default subwoofer question

so i have been thinking about getting a 12'' pioneer premier, and i was curious what do ohms do exactly my friend said resistance but like exactly what is it for? they have the same sub one is 4 ohm and the other is 2 ohm what the difference and which one is better

Which sub is "better" depends on the ohms rating of the amplifier pushing the sub. If your amp is rated for 2 ohms impedance then the 2 ohm sub is the better match to your amp. Either sub will work but the better match sub to amp will give clearer crisper sound.

Most amps are stable for 2,4, or 8 ohm. The less ohms, the clearer and crisper the bass. If you can get an amp that's stable for 1 ohm, and a dual voice coil 2 ohm sub, you can wire it up for 1 ohm. Check out the Crutchfield site, they have all kinds of explanations, plus wiring diagrams for multiple subs, DVC and SVC subs, to achieve whatever ohm rating you want.

Thanks Willstruck that was a much better explanation than I could come up with. I always have a hard time conveying things like that without getting technical.
