To all SPORT owners!!! Winch questions
alright so most of you will probably hate me cause i know someone somewhere has asked this...
i drive a 1999 dodge ram 1500 sport thats been leveled and rides on 33s!
Ive been wanting to add a winch to my front end though i know that the bumper i have isnt compatible for aftermarket bumper winch mount kits and plow kits. so i was wondering
has anyone out there fabercated a mount to fit right in between the frame front member and the bumper (the frame section under the radiator and between the bumpers two bumper slots) i know the back of the bumper is steel and is pretty structurally sound so can anyone help me i will add a photo of where i am talking about

I have never seen it done before, but I have always thought about doing something like that as well. I am pretty sure there is adequate room for a winch to fit there, but a fair amount of fabrication will be necessary, as there is no "kit" available for it that I am aware of.
Just make sure your mounts for the winch are mounted to the frame, not the bumper.
You could check out a new Power Wagon setup also, as they have the winch mounted behind the bumper too. It is a totally different bumper/frame setup, but it may give you some ideas.
Good luck, and post pics of progress if you start up the project.

You could get a front mounted hitch and get one of those cradles that fits in a 2'' hitch reciever. That way your hitch can be removed when you are not using it, and you have the versitility of an front mounted hitch when you are parking trailers or something. It is something to think about.
thanks you guys! I ran into an old friend of mine from high school, he actually is cummins expert for a preformance shop and hes seen some sport2500 drivers reinforcing the sport bumper so that it will handle the load between the frame and the bumper. the two of us are going to tear everything down and reinforce everything ill keep uploading with the details and photos! so far it looks like my frames got PLENTY of room!!! thanks again!!
