Default 2 wheel abs or 4 wheel ABS

Hey guys,

first of all I'm still loving my new used truck. 1998 Quad full size bed 4x4 ram

Now my question, when i'm looking for a new front hub wheel bearing assembly i get a question if its 2 wheel ABS or 4 wheel ABS. How do i tell? (advance auto parts) I did talk to someone on the phone at the steelership but they didn't know which I had after I gave them my last 9 digits of my vin number.

Many thanks guys

Do a search in here for build sheet. You can get one for your truck and it will tell you if it has the 4 wheel ABS option. Very few 1500 trucks had the 4 wheel ABS option, mostly 2500 and 3500 models. The dealer should have been able to get this info for you easily.

jack up the front and remove a tire.
look at how many hoses and wires come to the hub and brake area.
you'll find a brake hose to the caliper.
if you find a wire coming into the knuckle, then you have 4 wheel (front) ABS.

most trucks are rear wheel only ABS.

Wouldn't he have a ABS distribution unit under the hood with all the brake lines coming out of it like newer vehicles do? I have a 2 wheel on mine so I don't know what the 4 wheel ABS looked like in the 2nd gens.
