Default Auto Transmission to Manual Transmission???

My transmission is on its way of going , Starting to show signs of slipage and changes gears hard/holds gears to long now. I was wondering if it was possible, to change from a automatic transmission to a manual transmission, Has this been done before? Any write ups about it?

Also, My previous owner seems to have hit something on the ground hard, My transmission support bar/ Mount is all ****ed up and bent under the truck, Going to need to replace it, does anyone know of a place to get one?

It's a bit of a pain. You need the different transmission and a different wiring harness, the clutch pedal, the PCM from a stick. Preferably the dash insert, and again preferably the steering colum from the manual (unless your nastalgic for your auto shifter), you also need the front driveshaft, or you'll have to alter yours. I think that's about it. Also the transmission mounts might be different but I'm not sure.

shes 2wd so i wont need the front drive shaft, Could i burn my PCM for a stick?

Whats different about the Dash in the Manual versus auto.

Reason i want to do this swap is because Insted of paying for a brand new transmission , Id rather buy a transmission that is simpler , and I like driving stick < just in case anyone asks haha

I doubt you could burn the PCM for a stick, a dealership (unless you got friends in the right places) probably won't touch it.

I know an OBD1 Ram computer can run an OBD1 Dakota, and since there are more Dakota V8 5 speeds than Rams, maybe an OBD2 manual Dakota computer would work in your ram

Ill deffently look into that.

Will my stock driveshaft from my autotransmission work with the manual , or will i need a differnt one. If i need a differnt one , is there a aluminum driveshaft for our trucks?

I think I've read the NV3500 is several inches shorter than the auto.

Mayve putting a dana 70 in there will make up the difference. That'd be better than getting a shorter drive shaft

Dont forget the flywheel, clutch, slave cylinder.......basically it can be done if you can find a truck pretty much exactly like yours but with a standard tranny.

I got a new trans support a couple years ago from one of those junkyards that let you take the parts off yourself, you get them cheaper, I think I paid $35 to replace the one I twisted to hell.
Quite a bitch to get on and off.
