Check Gauges Light
one of your gauges is probably maxxed out or not registering at all when you get that one.
i got the check gauges light one time and when i did my voltage was maxxed out. i jammed on the brakes and cut it off and went straight to the battery and started checking wires. it turned out to be the negative cable on the battery was loose and arcing to the post. I scraped it clean with a pocket knife, then cut a penny in half and shoved it between the crappy band style cable ends and the post so it would hold on tight and was on my way.

cleaned the post/clamp with the pocket knife, cut the penny with wire cutters. a penny was an expendable piece of metal that i had available, i don't keep a bunch of random stuff in my truck so it was about my only option. the oe band style battery clamps suck, i have the lead ones on mine now.
haha funny stuff olyelr.. but yeah all my gauges seem to be reading right. but ill have to hunt around the wiring a bit...i also have a loud pully going out noise haha so maybe alt. its starting to quit... o and special thanks to franklin518 your dumn..haha

if it happened when coming up to a red light. check your oil level. when i first bought my truck the oil was a bit low and on hard braking (see "i coulda made that yellow, prolly...") the oil level in the pan registered low and tripped the light.
EDIT: ditto purpl

I remember a thread a while back on this issue, it was not the gauges themselves. The guy just didn't notice the oil pressure go to zero momentarily , and IIRC his was just low on oil. You obviously can't be looking at them every second, and that's all it takes.
