trans questions
ok, i do realize i need to adress my transmission being i have a blown out gear and i am putting this lift and big azz tires on...
i do know the transgo shift kit is good idea.. and i need a tranny cooler. and i will probably invest in a trans temp gauge...
i am tossed between the rebuild or replace...
i can get a rebuild kit with steel bands for about 200 bucks. my question is, cause im sure someone here has done it before, if i was to get the kit, and pull the transmission, how much would a rebuild cost. like for just labor.. i know thats very hard to say being the labor rate depends on the shop. but just whats some of the prices other people have paid???
or would i be more benifit to just forking out the 1000 bucks for rebuilt trans and be done??? i dont think the labor would be that much and i am on a budget....

I just rebuilt my 46RE myself back in the winter. I did it over 3 weeks (off and on), but I believe it can be done in a 3 day weekend.
I bought new steels, frictions, bearings (2), TC, bands, transgo jr shift kit for $400 from DACCO (locally). I have put 2k miles on it and had no issues. Its not hard, just follow the manual and video and take your time.
Feel free to ask me any questions.

well the thing is because i am currently in IRAQ, i cant rebuild this trans... it would be my dad which is getting ready to take over a business now so he is really busy and will be for a while. i am already pushing it by asking him to install pretty much my entire lift kit for me ( 8 inch long arm lift)...
i would most likely be having him bring it in to get it rebuilt, but ill aks him what he thinks. ill get back to ya on that whole askin ya questions deal...
