Default 35s

I just purchased a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 offroad edition. WAs wondering what it takes to make them clear 35s? Reason being is I get them for 50 bucks a tire from a CORR race team. 35x12.50x17 BFG mudterrain KRs. I alread ordered a solid steel track bar conversion bracket and steering box brace. Thanks

Be prepared to be overwhelmed with ideas...LOL.

I would probably run a 2 inch or 3 inch spacer up front. Getting an adjustable track bar to center your axle and in future some slightly longer control arms should prevent any rubbing. You should have plenty of clearance in the back.
A quick note...some of my friends who bought the steering brace ended up breaking steering boxes when flexing off road. A couple of them removed the crossmember but kept the ends intact.

Lastly...I would be very leery about buying used tires from anyone who off roaded them as hard as a CORR team has. Theres a reason they don't reuse them after a race...and therein lies the issue. If they wouldn't trust them on a race course, should you trust them on the street? Who would be liable if a blowout causes injuries or damage? These tires have been jumped, slid, twisted and bashed. Yes they're a tough tire, but if the racers won't run them, should you?
Sometimes you can pay too much, but you can surely pay too little. In the end, you gets what you pays for.

Thanks for the info. The bracket i ordred gets rid of the tie rod style track bar an dupdates to the 03-05 style. Any fender trimming needed in front? And were good friends with the team that I buy tires off of. Friend of mine has been running them on his tundra and another has them on his 04 2500 no problems. I get the ones with one lap on them. They balance well and handle quite nicely for an offroad tire. Thanks for the concern.

you want to look at the minimum rim diameter for the tire to make sure your off road rims aren't too narrow. if they are then all it would take would be a good hard bump to pop them off the rims.

If you'd have told me that in the first place...

Your track bar bracket is nice but I would get an adjustable bar. The reason is that for every 2 inches you lift your front axle it moves the axle back about 3/4 of an inch and over about the same amount. You already have almost 1&1/2 inches over a stock ram. Not doing a correct lift will insure some clearance issues.
With your stock rims I wouldn't think you'd need trimming. Somebody else posted a few days ago who was using 315's on a stock ram with off road rims and had no serious issues. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...r-spacers.html

Sheriff420...actually the opposite is true. You are more likely to pop a sidewall off a too wide rim/too narrow tire combo. Thats because the sidewall is stretched too far and the bead is splayed backwards. While you can have other structural/wear issues with narrow rim/wide tire combo, a 35x12 on an 8 inch rim should be fine with the proper air pressure.

Thanks guys. Forgot to mention I ordered KORE adjustable track bar and front leveling springs. Replaced all shocks with king 2.5 resivoirs and replaced my front upper shocks mount with the billet version they sell. I also have a set of KMC 17x9 Beadlocks I could always put on. If rim back spacing is and issue.

I hope you'll post some pictures...

If you decide to use your KMCs down the road and want to sell your stock rims, PM me. I may be looking!

i wasn't sure about the rim width deal but i did know that it isn't good to run rims that are too narrow for the tire. and i hope you can get the off road rims from noneed, i think they're the best looking dodge rim.

That is true...Its insane to squeeze a 315 or even a 305 tire on a factory 7 inch chromie, even a 285 is pushing the limit.
But I have seen it done, and the issue is that you have to watch your inflation because inflating to higher pressures crowns the tire and can break cords.
Conversly I have seen 33x12s on 10 inch rims pop beads when run under inflated for off roading.
I would never put a 315 on a 7 inch wide rim. But an 8 inch should be ok. I used to run a M-50/14 on an 8.5 inch rim. That tire is a heck of a lot wider than any 12.5.
