Plenum fix kit... same problem
So I just recently installed the new Hughes plenum fix kit that I purchased. Along with some other bolt on goods while i was in there and theres one small problem. When I really get on it, and it hangs around 28-3 grand, i get my pinging back, the same pinging i had before i put the kit on. Now granted its not nearly as bad as before but i thought this was supposed to fix it completely? Is there any other suggestions? Plugs? Fuel additives? could it just be a coincidence and maybe have some bad gas? Thoughts appreciated, Thanks.
The Hughes kit should help with the original problem causing the pinging. However...
The damage possibly done by the leaking plenum gasket, that you fixed, might still need to be addressed.
Clean the throttle body, being careful with the sensors as you remove them. Also, you may want to replace the pre-cat oxygen sensor, as it is more than likely fouled a bit as well. After that, disconnect the negative battery terminal. Turn on the headlamps for several seconds, then turn them off. Reconnect the negative battery terminal. That should reset the PCM, clearing its memory and forcing it to "relearn" from the sensors.

I though you had to like push they trip thing on the dash. I got yelled at by sliver about it.

one more time.... pay attention, learn it, repeat it correctly, and you won't get yelled at.
to run the gauge test on later models - turn ignition key on while holding in trip meter.
to show codes - turn ignition key on, off, on, off, on.
to reset pcm - remove neg battery cable, then either turn on headlights for 30 sec, or, turn ignition to start for 30 sec. the open circuit drains the power that holds pcm memory values.
wkday - you still have something wrong. either another vac leak, carbon buildup in cyl, or something too hot or too lean. as said by dodge above, try some 89 octane to see how much it takes to eliminate your ping. it should not take any, but since there's still a problem, find out how much it takes. 1/4 tank, or 1/2, or what. check vac lines, incl 4wd cad lines.
