This morning when I was pulling out of the driveway, my stereo shut off and wouldn't come back on. I didn't realize until after work that the A/C compressor also won't come on. The stereo is a Sony - when I used the source button on the face instead of the remote it powered back up. However, the A/C still is not working - the compressor won't come on. It has always worked flawlessly, it didn't deteriorate over time.

I swapped the relay's under the hood around, nothing. Fuses check OK also. Does it have a fusible link somewhere ? Anybody ever have this happen before I take it to the shop ? Any ideas ?

2000 Ram 1/2 ton 4wd, 360, automatic.

could have a wire grounding itself somewhere. check all the wires going to the compressor and going into the fuse box in the engine for spots that are worn through.

 

did the head unit go into protect mode

 

The unit is a Sony, not sure what you mean by protect mode ? It powered down and would not respond to the remote control. For the heck of it after work I tried the source button on the faceplate and it responded.

Still no response from the A/C compressor however.
