Clogged Cat-Fixed-But now horrible Milage
He says he removed the cat, now he's replaced the 02 sensor. He's done everything except fix the root of the problem to begin with. And after my intake removal the other day, the only way I'll say to check it is by removing the TB and looking with a flashlite and mirror. As far as I'm concerned the TSB check is a waste of time.
not to be a dick or anything, but almost everybodies answer on here to everything is replace the plenum. I know that is/was a big problem with our engines but slow down and just think about what you are saying before you tell them its the f'ing plenum. sorry for the blow up but i figure someone had to say it.
Hey, im going with everybody else! Check your plenum. What can it hurt just to see if there is any oil in there? Nothing...
So check the dang thing and be done with it. Like i said, what does it hurt knowing that the plenum is blown? It wont hurt anything knowing, Plus that will eliminate you coming back to the forums telling everyone, well..my trucks skipin and running like crap. Knowing what we know now we'll say. Check your plugs. And you will then see your plugs coated in crap. Because you have a blown plenum gasket.
Id check it.

BTW !!! Is yours good????????? If you went by the TSB, that I regret recommending as a check, It's probably NO GOOD either.
dodge cats from 96-2001 , perhaps more yrs , were prone to fail due to manufacturers defects . Most complaints were rattles , as was my case . It had no effect on performance or economy in my case , it would still flow . I had it hollowed out and don't recomend this to anyone , sounds like crap . Replace the cat !
Something caused the cat to clog , perhaps the upstream O2 was faulty for a while during the previous ownership . The plenum gasket failing is certainly not out of the question , it's just a dodge make work part , designed to fail. I have to argue the TSB is no good though . If the plenum leaks , it will cause a vacumn leak , negative pressure . No leak , positive pressure . Zman , I don't know what else to say here .
OP , your in Calgary , I'm in Edmonton . Up till last week , I could have gotten a M-1 performance Intake for $150 . I could check availability for you if you like , it's a sweet deal . You'd never get it if it was an EGR one . name+ hotmail.com for quickest reply . Oh , so you know , no plenum plate on the M1 , it will never be an issue . Performance gains are very notible . $50 for the running around (its outside the city) and shipping (biggest chunk) and I can overnite it via Greyhound or similar .
PS , I doubt many on here would pass on that deal . No personal profit involved here , merely passing on a deal .

Check the plenum. And do it by removing the TB and looking with a flashlight and mirror. I am in the middle of installing the Hughes plate I have had laying around, I thought mine was good going by the TSB, well, I was wrong! The TSB check is a worthless waste of time. I started about an hour and a half ago , and now I'm looking at an intake manifold full off oil that didn't show up by looking down the TB or the TSB check.
isn't it fun to do the plenum lol i just finished mine up today. took alittle while to put it back together because of me being so **** about how clean i like things. plus it did the timing chain, water pump, oil pan gasket, plugs wires cap rotor and oil pressure sensor.
oh yeh try not to snap the intake bolts from hughes. I broke one and had to take the intake back off and drill and easyout the bolt. now i have grade 8 hardened bolts in for the intake.
