Default Temp problems

I tried to do the DYI for burping the cooling system due to air being trapped and my truck refuses to heat up past the first line on the temp guage with the cap off. My only guess is the stat is stuck open? Would it not still get to temp eventually if the stat was open? I let it run for an hour and gave up It's a 98 4x4 5.9. TIA.

It won't get to temp if it's stuck open, but were you able to add any fluid?

Very little, maybe 4 or 5 ounces. Overflow is full also. The gushing noise behind the dash goes away in about 5 sec. now. After i idled the truck for an hour i could stick my finger in the Rad. and it was barely even warm.

I'd start with replacing the T-stat. and the radiator cap.

NP, and do the same procedure you've read about ,by raising the front when your done and it's time to re fill the system.
