I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you as I do not recall that thread, but I don't see how this would be possible.
Closed loop is where the truck listens to the O2 sensor. Before that, during "warm up" (open loop), it ignores the sensor. Why would changing the sensor affect the warm up period when it doesn't listen to the sensor?

To the OP, remove the TPS and the AIC and clean them, they are the cheepest route. Replace the front(upstream) 02 sensor.
did you change that o2 sensor?
one test i would do would be checking the resistance on all of the injectors. if a cylinder or two were getting insufficient gas then i think it would cause a popping noise and low power.

Yes I changed the 02 sensors on both trucks. On the 00 5.9 I did the resitance check and a fuel pressure test, both came up with in spec. Like I periviously stated I don't know the hows or why's about changing the O2 sensor for this particlar symptom/fix. I never followed up on it after changing it.
Did you replace the O2 sensors, and if so did it correct the symptoms? I am having the same symptom but not hard starting. Mine is intermittent.I just dont want to go around stabbing in the dark if this fixes it I would like to know. Too many posts dont tell the final results on how they resolved the issues they are having.

Yes replacing the O2 sensors did correct the problem in both trucks. On my current 01, i plan on changing them again once i have the exhaust and plenum done.
well, the other day, mechanic came by and hooked it up to computer, says it has something to do with iac it is staying stuck open or something. he is supposed to come back and investigate further. will post when i know any thing. thanks for all your help and support.
