Dodge ram v10 Questions
I have a 99 ram v10 that had a head gasket blow up. im gonna attempt to do the fix myself and im confident that i can do it with help. Anyways my questions are first i have heard that the number 7 piston's cooliong jackets are too small and the piston has a habit of detonating, is this common among v10s or something i shouldn't really worry about? next im also wondering if there is any parts that i should switch out while im tearing the engine apart, i have 118000 miles so i figure why not replace or fix everything i can at once. if anyone also has any advice about the head gasket fix id appreciate the help.
That's a new one for me. I've heard how older V10 heads were prone to cracking, but only ever seen one person actually suffer from it. There was a problem with pre-2000 V10s where a misfire would occur because of bad spark plug wiring. It was fixed in 2000 with a new wire loom that separated the 5, 7 and 9 wires and a service bulletin was issued, so you might want to check into that. I'm at 104k and purring like a kitten still.
Dang it all, you are right! Pretend I didnt say anything Miami! I guess I better go vote too!
Awww, daw gawnit. Guess I WONT go vote then
jk MiamiTo the original poster, maybe replace the timing chain/gears and water pump while your in there. Im sure they are not too bad as of right now, but it probably wont be much longer and you will be right back in there... plust neither are too expensive.
