My air conditioning in my 2000 dodge ram turns on and runs for about 3 seconds then shuts off it keeps doing this

It seems like it working as it will get cooler - not cold - if it runs like this for 10 mins or more so it seems like their is still freon in it but it just won't stay running long enough

any ideals what the problem is the truck only has 50000 miles on it

Most likely low on refrigerant.

 

That or a bad pressure switch.

 

It's low on coolant and you have a leak somewhere. Most likely the evap core under the dash. If you have no experience with AC, just take it somewhere and have them check it. After they tell you what's wrong, maybe we can help you fix some of it, then take it back and have it evac'd and charged.

 

That is such a common problem you should really do a search and you will get 100's of posts to read through. After you read all those posts then you can decide if you want to tackle it yourself or take it to a shop.
