Default Need help!!

Hello all,

Need some help here, I am the owner of a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2 (318) 4x4 about 113,000 miles. about 3 months ago my truck started to bog dow when I applied the gas and back firing. I went to Auto-Zone and hooked up the computer it said I was mis firing from cylinder 1,3,5,7. I'm not much of a gear head so I Had my Buddy change the Distrib Cap,Roter the plug wires the PVC valve. Un hooked the battery and the check engin light went off. 2 days later I still have the same problem. Loss of power mis firing and back firing. I really can afford the trip to a shop so If anyone has had the same problem or if someone has a suggestion I would greatly appreciate the in put. The only thing that is aftermarket on the truck is a Duel flowmaster exhaust and a cold air filter.

I've heard of a clogged cat causing random cylinder misfire.

Probably a clogged CAT, or you have some serious problem to get that many misfires. Go to the exhaust pipe and see if when you (or someone else) give it gas do you get a nice big gust of gases coming out of the pipe or kinda wimpy. Since your new let me give you heads up, don't post titles like "Need Help!" Many people will ignore that and you may get little response. Most people need help, that's why they are making a post.

not to jack a thread but, My truck has the same issue i ran diagnostic on it and it is telling me oxygen sensor one for bank one is bad im assuming my plenum has caused my o2 to go bad and is the cause of my cat problems as well correct me if i am wrong but ive ready plenty of the plenum horror stories and all the symptoms seems to point to plenum being the main culprit and leading to the ladder of the problems hope some of you more experienced users can help point in the right direction

well thanks z man you really know how to point some one in the right direction i know i am a noob around here and it thanks to experienced helpful people like yourself that we feel oh so welcome here on the forum. Now as far as checking the plenum goes it is shot, as much as i would like to whack it with an axe ill just wait till money permits and purchase the hughes airgap and never have to worry about it again.

did you also try putting in new plugs because when i bought my 97 when i would floor it it would miss horribly and tha cle came on for #'s 7&8 misfires so i yanked the ones that idiot kid before me put it and he had the bosch +4's which suck big ones and i went back to autolite coppers and new wires and the truck runs like a dream and remember to gap them out if you need to

Don't get all hot & bothered about zman. He's roughly four brains cells away from certifiable insanity.
