steering wheel and tie rod ends are linked, it just needs and alignment.

sounds like the previous owner has beat the crap out of this truck and left an long string of broken items. i also bet he didn't fix the problem with the 4wd, likely just patched up the t-case and pulled the drive shaft and never looked back. so you could have more repairs in front of you.

i'd pass on it, or else treat it as a beater worth not too much.

Even though I'm a big fan of the 97's (I own one) I think this truck has been beat to heck, look for another Ram. The Chevy, Ford and Specially the Camaro will not be as much fun or reliable. The 87 Camaros had a lot of issues with them, and besides it has a carburetor, you will get crappy mileage out of it. You said you were a big guy, Camaros have tight interiors.
