k, this is gonna sound like a n00b question, but i am needing to wire up a trailer brake controller to my truck, which didn't have the factory towing package

my question is, i see a plug (its not the OBDII plug, i have OBDI) under the dash, is it possible this is the plug, i want to know before i buy the adapter that goes into the plug

I heard it is supposed to be a blue connector, but..... my thing is, where do the wires end up in the back of the truck? I have looked all around back there on my truck and haven't found a thing as mine came without the tow package as well. I ended up using the adapter that taps into your tail lights to give you the 4 pin connector, then ran a blue, and a red, and an orange (for my reverse lights) in some wire loom. all the way back. Then bought one of the 4pin to 7 & 4 adapters to complete the wiring out back. Either way i wish you luck

 

If your truck did not come equipped with the towing package the wiring is still there. It is inside the wire loom on the frame rail. You need to open the loom up and pull the wires out for the added wiring needed to hook up a trailer connector.

 

Gotcha.... yeah that probably would have been helpful when I ran mine, but I needed to run a wire for my reverse lights anyway so it wasn't a big deal to throw two more wires in the loom. Oh well... :/ Everything is ran... just waiting on me to buy the controller. Sorry to thread jack op.

 

Not to continue the thread jack but since we are waitin on pics.... I greatly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy for a brake controller. You can mount it just about anywhere with almost no regard to mounting angle and it is infinitely adjustable. I have one and have moved it from vehicle to vehicle over the last few trucks I have owned and it is very user friendly and it shows you how much voltage you are sending to the trailer brakes which once you get used to it makes it very easy to set for a particular trailer towing combination. They are a bit pricey but well worth it in my opinion.
