Default Tranny problems

Guys- I have a '98 1500 4x4 that the tranny just started acting up on. The truck does have 155,000 miles on it. My problem started the other day, I would take off and it would not shift correctly into overdrive once going around 55 MPH. Once in a while it seems like the tranny freewheels or slips around 2nd or 3rd gear (automatic tranny). A couple of weeks ago I did change the filter and fluid and made sure the filter was screwed back on correctly. There was no unusual stuff in the pan on the magnet. Does it sound like a solenoid or an adjustment I can make? The truck will rev high at times like I'm driving with the selector in second. Any help would be great. Thanks

did u use atf+3 or other brand ? did u adjust the bands ? if u used other then atf+3 u need to change back. and yes, the solenoids can develop internal leaks. on the valve body there should be 2 solenoids, one is for torque converter lockup, the other is for overdrive engagement.

When I changed the fluid I used ATF+4 and a MOPAR filter from the Dodge dealer in town. I did not adjust the bands on the tranny. The truck will shift good when it is cold but after a while starts acting up. It seems like it is not shifting into D or third. If you have it in 2nd and it starts revving high, shift into neutral and rev it up then put it back into D, it will shift fine. It will then shift from D to overdrive fine until it needs to kick back down into D, then it seems like it just skips D and goes into second making the truck rev high again. Could this be a TV cable adjustment or does it sound like bands slipping? Thanks

From everything I've read on here the bands need to be adjusted everytime that the transmission fluid/filter is replaced and ATF+3 needs to be used. Approximately every 25k miles. I just had mine done yesterday and it made a noticeable improvement in the quality of my shifting. You are saying that it just started acting up after you did the fluid change right? Maybe it was a bad move to use the +4?

I dont think the +4 is it, the +4 is synthetic and I run it in my truck. since you mentioned that it works fine when cold and doesnt when hot, I'd suspect that the bands just need to be adjusted. once it heats up and expands a bit, it maybe out of spec and slip. my .02 cents worth...
