Default changing my cat

well, i'm going to be changing my cat today. old one is shot and full of leaks, and i have a new magnaflow direct fit one. just curious if anyone has any pointers or suggestions before i dig into this thing. (the bolts for the y-pipe to header are pretty much new when from when i installed headers. hopefully they won't be rusty already).

Some spare bolts/studs? Soak them all down with penetrating oil. Remember the cranky old irishman Murphy is lurking, waiting to strike.

Wink

I sprayed my cat with flea treatment instead of replacing him.

disconnect the battery before you attack it with the welder.

i did all that. the main reason for changing my catalytic converter was originally because of leaks. well, it needed to be changed anyway(honeycomb was broken loose, wasn't going to pass emissions probably) and i thought the one major leak was from right exhaust header flange connection. well, i was wrong. bolted everything up real tight, no leaks from the connection, but still the noisy leak SOMEWHERE on the right header. i felt around the whole damn thing and burnt myself doing it...still couldn't feel anything. i have no clue as to where its coming from. i even looked around with a mirror to see if there was any black exhaust stuff and still didnt see anything. i'm stumped. i have no idea where its coming from. any ideas? i really dont want to take my headers back off...what a pain they were lol

Blown gasket most likely. Check the bolts in that area.

i checked all the bolts. some of them were lose, so i tightened them back up(figured they just backed out like usual). maybe i'll have to take them off and put fel-pro ones in. i really dont want to do that though, it was such a PITA to put them on lol...the leak is only coming from the right side though...a little easier than the left. idk, we'll have to see.
