Default O' The Tranny Woes (Need help)

Hi all,

I recently acquired a 1997 Ram V6 for 1200 bucks. It only has 91k miles on it, and it drives fine except for shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear, and from 2nd to 1st. I can put it in first gear, and then shift into drive at the appropriate speed and it'll work fine. Every gear after 1st shifts properly up and down (except for the aforementioned problem). But for fear of the problem worsening, I figured I'd post a 'omg help!' thread and see what you guys say. I read around the forums and concluded that:

a. stock transmissions are garbage

and,

b. replace the governor solenoid (forgot proper wordage there)

I checked a lot of the former transmission problem topics to see if my problem existed anywhere else, and didnt see it specifically. So I apologize if I overlooked a thread/post in my haste to figure out the problem, but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I think that is a seperate band. Someone that knows more about the internals can clarify though.

Are you sure your TV cable is adjusted properly?

1. Check TV cable
2. Adjust both bands per OEM
3. Change fluid and filter

Then see if you still have the shift issue. If so, check your pressure readings from the pressure port.

Be careful adjusting those bands. Ive heard of people screwing up there trannies that way. Thats the one thing im going to dodge for. They have done it several times before. So they know what there doing. Yea, you get the torque specs and do it yourself...But are you sure your torque wrench is that accurate? Yea, im scared to adjust the bands on mine...

Just a heads up!

Thanks for the quick responses. I'll try everything when I get back to my house this afternoon. I'll keep everyone updated...I know the suspense is probably killing you all.
