My driverside u-joint on the axle shaft is bad and i am goin to replace it but i was wondering if the axle shaft has a c-clip in the axle housing like most...if not i could just pull the axle out. But if not i have to take the diff cover off and pull the whole front end apart...so i was wonderin if anybody knew...its a 01 1500 with dana 44's i think....thankyou
There's no c-clips in the axle housing. Remove the tire, the rotor, the hub nut, three bolts on the back of the hub and off comes the hub and out comes the axle.
when you reinstall the axle, cover the end with a lot grease and slide it in very very gently and use all the care you can to avoid tearing up the oil seals that sit at the differential end of the axle tube. or else you'll be taking taking it all apart again and pulling out the damn differential.
