Default plastic piece on front bumper

That plastic piece that hangs down off of the front bumper on my truck(I'm sorry I can't remember what it is called at the moment) was broken and hanging down too far, so I took it off. Should I replace it, or is it acceptable to drive without it?

It's called an air dam. I took the one on my old Ram off, and saw no adverse effects, and I've seen plenty of trucks driving around without them.
