Well, its a matter of time for everything. I was noticing mine the other day and I noticed that as I sped up or slowed down it would move around. It seemed to me like before it would be rock steady and not move. Now it's moving. I dunno if I am recollecting incorrectly and it has always moved or if it's starting to act up. Vehicles and houses are constant maintenance.

 

Advice... don't go with that AutoZone POS. I went that route and in less than a year my gauge is all f'd up. It still pumps but the gauge is only between over full and half full. They are cheap for a reason.

Spend the money on a decent unit from Napa.

 

Any brand suggestions?? Then after I put the new unit in will it fix itself to the normal level?

 

Go to Napa or another quality parts store and buy the assembly. Yes the gauge will go back to normal after you replace the pump assembly.

 

Well I get the Napa part...but what about brand name. I don't want to use NAPA cause they have retail markup out the tail pipe. I will shop online, I just want to know a good brand.

 

OK. Go to Rockauto.com and look up your truck and go through the break down menu till you get to fuel pumps. They carry Bosch, AC Delco, Airtex, Delphi, Spectra, and Carter brands. I would recommend either the Bosch, AC Delco, or Delphi units.

OK, I found a very useful testing procedure on AllData:

For mine- I unplugged the connector and the gauge went down, jumped the pins and it went back up, meaning bad sending unit.

Hope this helps others with gauge/sending unit issues.

 

Thanks OREN!!! Well I had to dump some more cash in the truck when my yellow top Optima took a **** on me. 160 buck battery with a 1 year free replacement.. I got a MAXX Everstart from wal-mart. Its a tractor size battery.

 

No way tell me you didn't ditch the yellow top!!! Optima carries a three year on their batteries. I have a red top in my truck and two years later and three vehicles the replaced it free of charge. No prorating or anything like that.

 

Yea the yellow top I have had since early 05 and the yellow top has a 1 year free replacement. The battery I got from walmart is huge compared to my old yellow top. Anyways I guess my solution to this is a fuel sending unit with a new fuel pump. I am more then likely going with Bosch. Anyone had a problem with them>??
