It is one hundred percent illegal to remove your cat no matter where you live in the continental united states. Having said that if you feel like taking the chance of removing it by all means go right ahead. If I could I probably would too but we check for them here. I think if I remember right you will have to have a y-pipe made up for it.

Depending on model year deleting the cat you will have to reset the computer cause it will go into limp mode due to same o2 readings both front & rear (rear needs to see less). If reseting the pcm doesnt rid the code & limp mode you can either hang the rear o2 outside the exhaust or use a sparkplug fouler to pull the o2 out of the exhaust stream which makes it see less emissions and eliminates the code/limp mode.

Can run a h/f cat and still get pretty good gains from it. The biggest restriction on the whole exhaust is right before the cat. OEM had 2 small diameter pipes that bend very sharply right before going into the cat. Straighten out the pipe and use larger diameter pipes going into a h/f cat will be almost as good and sound will be better than deleting it altogether.

I wasnt here, I didnt tell you that

I replaced my stock (clogged and rattling ) cat with universal replacement ($218 labor and parts). Truck sounds and runs 100% better. Took half an hour and problem solved with out skritting the law or trying to fool the PCM. Also check your intake for pooling oil you may have a leaking plenum gasket...
