Brake Squeel.. Any suggestions?
Ive been having this front brake squeel for some time now so i decided to finally do somehting about it. I put on new rotors and pads on the front, and new shoes on the back. It was quiet for about 5 miles and then the squeel came back again. What else could it be!? Thanks.
What kind of pads did you go with? Dealer pads seem to be the quietest. Cheap aftermarket pads are almost guaranteed to squeal. Also, do you drive with two feet? People that use their left foot to brake tend to keep it there and drag the brakes which will glaze them in no time.
The front brakes have this piece of metal that is suppose to touch the rotor when the brake gets worn to a certain point. Maybe yours is bent to far and it is touching the rotor causing it to squeal. I dont know the technical name for that piece of metal.
I used those thermoquiet pads, they were also brand new so they shouldnt be glazed over yet, also the ones i took off that had squeeled since i bought the truck, werent glazed either, in fact they were in good shape i didnt even want to replace them. No I don't drive with two feet either as i have heard it can cause that. THe metal piece seems to be plenty away from the rotor. I mean i cant see it when im driving but id assume since it looks good right now.
What shape are the calipers in? Did you clean them up and lubricate them before you put the new pads and shoes on? Also, are you sure it is the fronts? Sometimes the rear shoes will squeal if the shoes are reversed.
