Default Transmission Cooler

Went down to my trusted transmission shop today to discuss putting in a TransCo shift kit. We decided not to do it right now since I am still under factory extended warranty. Warranty will be up in 13,000 miles, or 5 months, whichever comes first, so I'll be doing it then.

But the shop did recommend I put on a transmission cooler to help keep the temps down when hauling, towing, off-roading, etc. The shop recommended either a Transcool or Hayden for the brand, and 15,000-18,000 GVW. They want about $200 to install.

Have any of you had an aftermarket trasmission cooler installed?
Did it help keep trans temps down?
Can I install it myself?
Other comments/suggestions please.
Thanks.

I have one on my old coronet, and it does make a difference. I don't have a gauge, but you can tell the difference between incoming and outgoing sides of the cooler. I installed it myself and it was easy to do. It's well worth the money if you're hard on your truck.
Here's a picture of it mounted in front of the radiator.
