Our auto transmissions are not "geared" the best, so to speak, obviously, as anyone with a performance rebuilt transmission (or shift kit even) in one of these trucks will tell you. They shift much better with better performance if rebuilt really strongly and/or after a shift kit.

Before or after the rebuild/shift kit, a manual may still feel like its putting the horses to the ground better/faster, as you control the truck more than you do with an automatic.
Plus, the TC can multiply the amount of torque that the engine puts out (compensating for drive train loss). But, as with everything, its all how everthing is setup.

if you're planning on keeping you old motor, add the core charge into the final price, because you won't be getting it back,
plus,
for $100 more, I'd go for the 5.9 w/ 325HP.

I would have to see the dyno being performed myself to believe the 325 HP on a 5.9 with stock heads.

ok well hers a question the reason i have been looking at getting a new engine is bc my oil pressure is tripping me out and i think the oil pump is going out and i figure i could always use more hp and if i have to rip the engine apart to do the oil pump i might as well rebuild it. so maybe yall can save me some money my oil pressure is perfect while driving i have about 1000 miles left till i hit 3000 miles on my oil change (so im guessing that its not bad oil) my oil is full in the pan but whenever i stop and the rpms go below 800 rpms when im idling my oil pressure goes to 0 and my check gauge light comes on but if i hold the rpms at 800 it goes back up or once i start driving it goes back up does anyone know what that means???

i had the same problem, its not the pump, its low oil level, when you stop the oil sloshes forward, and the pump sucks air, or little oil. then it goes right back up to normal. and you can replace a oil pump without tearing the whole motor down i believe. i think you can do it without taking the motor out as well.

Default Oil Pump

I have a 98 and have taken the oil pan off while the motor was in the truck.. I have never had a problem with the oil sloshing and losing PSI. I do take mine off road.. It MAY be a bad sending unit or something else or you may be looking at a rebuild.. If a rebuild is in order, you heads are probably junk.. They all crack..
