Default EGR Valve help

Hey guys, I have a 1996 2500 v10. I recently replaced my valve cover gaskets, along with the gaskets in the lower and upper intake manifold, throttle body, and air cleaner housing. I was looking at the shop manual today and noticed the egr valve should be bolted to the lower intake manifold, and there should be a tube coming out of the valve. Ok so now heres my problem: I never took an egr valve off the truck when i removed the intakes, or better yet, there was never one in that spot to begin with. I think im missing something here. Doesn't the truck need the egr components to run? It was running fine before i took it apart and noticed it. Is it possible that it is located somewhere else and im completely oblivious to where that spot is? thanks in advance for any help.

EGR stopped on the V8s in 96, maybe it's the same for V10s?
