2001 1/2 ton wanderings
Hi all, nother new guy with a stupid question...
I am looking at getting an one owner '01 Half Ton Extended Cab, 4x4, 5.9 Liter with 62K on the clock and a clean carfax. Dealer is paying off my 180k Chevy Z-71 and getting me into this bad boy for 9500 out the door. Before I bite, what kind of danger signs should I look for on this bad boy?

cracked dash, CPU death flash, leaking plenum. but of course these are all problems that just about every 2nd gen ram has, due to chryslers ceos being money hungry.
the death flash is a reprogram of the pcm that is done by the dealer, on the radiator support or on the pcm itself there will be a sticker that says factory authorized update then a date. this was doen to mask the effects of crappy engineering of the plenum plate being made of steel, and the intake manifold made of aluminum, and the differet expansion rates that causes the gasket to break, and leak oil rigth into the intake. so what this reprogram did was knock a few degrees off of the timing to hide the effects as i stated before. however there are ways to undo this. i only know of 2 so far.
1. Get a programer (i.e superchips, hypertech diablo, sct, etc...)
2 do the crankshaft postion sensor(CKP, some know it as the CPS) mod
there is a diy for the crank postion mod here on the site.
