Unhappy Steering wheel problems

Alright i have a 98 ram 1500 4x4 and theres 2 things weird about the steering wheel, i suspect them being the same problem though... first off is the steering has a lot of play like its really loose, not sure if this is because its got 33 1250s on it or what but second of all is when i turn it most/all of the way to the right or left i get a little ticking feeling, not really a noise but i can feel a tick in the steering wheel...

what is wrong and how much is it going to cost?

The steering box could be going out.
You can adjust it to take out the play. There's a writeup about that in the DIY thread sticky.

Open the hood and grab the bottom of the steering column right where it comes out of the firewall under the MC where the column attaches to the intermediate shaft, and see if there is any up and down or sideways play in the column itself. Next, without the truck running , have some one inside the truck turn the steering wheel right to left(only slightly more than the free play) while you watch for play starting at the column down to the steering box. Look closely at the intermediate shaft ujoints and slip joint. Have that person do the same thing with the wheel while you look underneath at the pitman arm. If the pitman arm is barely moving than the prob is the box or before the box. Fix that issue than you can check the rest of the steering after the box in the same manner.
