Grinding noise
Hey all, i have read a different post similar but a lil different so figured i would ask. i have a 97 1500 sport with 94k miles on it. i have heard a really slight noise coming from the front end, pretty sure right side. well when coming home the other night it got really loud, i pulled over and couldnt see anything going on and got in and went a bit further to the check point (military post). i stopped showed my id and when i drove off the problem had went back to the barley audible sound. im taking it in to our DIY shop and rotating tires and greaseing it up tomorrow and trying to find out what was making that terrible noise. i had notices the slight noise came when turning the wheel to the left more than when driving straight but the really loud grinding came while drive straight down the road so im not sure. slight vibration could also be felt in the floor boards. any ideas on what i should be looking at would help greatly, and im deffinately not a genuis with my truck, tanks yes, trucks no lol. but thanks anyways
well after pulling the tire and then brakes it still made the noise and im going with wheel bearings. gotta love dodge, cant just buy bearings, you get a nice new wheel hub assembly for $135, at least i dont have 4 wheel ABS cuz that about doubles the cost.
Are you sure it's in the wheels? I just noticed something similar with my '99. It started making this loud grinding/groaning noise. I could feel it in the floorboards and in the gearshift. I thought it was the wheels or tranny cause it only was happening when I was moving but this morning it was doing it with the car in park in the driveway. I noticed last night that it was mostly when I was accellerating from about 18 to about 22. Today I could hear it faintly and rarely at higher speeds for just a second. I'm wondering if it's not the water pump or fan clutch.
im sure on mine that it was wheel bearings as i just got done putting the new hub assemble on today and yeah my bearings were shot. mine was a constant faint noise. im not sure that yours is a like problem, if you jack up the front and spin the tires and check for play (wobbleing) then id go with bearings but i dunno
