Mine lasted me to 160,XXX.
No, I'm not the original owner. PO probably blew the fuse and replaced it with stock spec.

Got my 96 with 67000 miles on it, got an junk yard alt. and took it to a rebuilder and he went thru it. I have $75.00 in a spare now. 111,000 miles now.
My 87 has 170,000 miles and put brushes in it around 90,000. No problems yet.

Only thing new he put in was the brushes I think.
Marbe one bearing.
I got $75.00 in it all together.
This feller does nothing but generator, alternator, and starters.
Checked all internals also.
The junk (salvage) yard I go to records the milage off the vehicle they take any thing off for resale.

Got it sitting on my bench, not sure if "Denso" is OEM or not.
Haven't got the new one yet, I might explore a rebuild also.

Denso was OEM.
The guy that does the rebuilding here told me that the denso alt. and starters last much better that the ones mopar used in the previous years.

Got one today for what I consider to be a great price $75 out the door ,,, But I'll have to take it back.
First off, everything matched up perfectly except the pulley, which was a bit smaller on the new one.
No problem, just swapped pulleys.
This guy said that the larger amperage models are physically larger, and would not install in my truck.
He didn't have a larger model to compare to back those words up, so I don't know if thats true or not, can anyone verify ?
This one is a 90 amp, my fuse is 120 amp, so I don't know.

Anyways, the kicker is the upper bolt hole is far too small for my bolt, not even close to making it through, so for that alone, I'll have to take it back.
Resizing to a smaller bolt not an option, as then it wouldn't thread in the block.
I suppose the hole can be machined to make it larger, but thats something I'm not going to mess with, and I still have the gut feeling that I should be getting a 120 amp model.

The 117 amp alt. had the 120 fuse if I'm not mistaken.

Ok got the correct one, it was the wrong part.

90 & 120 amp look almost identical, and in fact will line up on the bolt holes.
All the same connections are present on both, making it kinda hazardous to eyeball guess, like I did.
The 120 is a bit huskier though, and the top bolt is apparently smaller for the smaller amperage alternator.

Got the new, correct one installed, still no output dammit.
All connections are tight and clean.
Voltage is present at the + connector on the alternator.
I replaced the 120 amp fuse, no joy.

I'm thinking fusible link, what else could it be, besides a dud alternator ?
