Default Advice on 01' 5.2 Ram

Hey guys, I'm looking for my first vehicle and have been looking at all sorts of Fords and Dodges of all years. This one caught my eye. Any opinions on it? How bad is the mileage for a 5.2? Any big problems? Good price? Lowest offer I should give? Any other input would be great, thanks...

Thanks for the reply, keep them coming. My dad has an 04 Hemi but other than that I know nothing about older Ram's or the 318's... I wouldn't be putting a ton of miles on it, just as long as it's good enough to get around town in.

I'm just afraid something major will go out a day after I get in it...

Called the guy but he won't pick up...

ive got a 95 with the 5.2...i bought it brand new. it still runs about like it did when it was new. as long as maintenance has been kept up i would offer him 3200 and if he counters with 3350, take it.

Preciate the reply.

The thing is it's just hard to say how hard it's been worked or beat for having 140k on it. It's not outrageous but that's a good amount of miles.

I just can't pay even $3000 and have the motor blow up tomorrow. Just being cautious but that would be my luck. Just have to ask a ton of questions, if he ever answers his phone....

I always take a look in the box and see if there was ever a fifth wheel plate mounted in there.....always a good check to see if the previous owner might of did some serious towing with it or not. Check the axles to make sure they arn't leaking any fluid either.

def. check the transmission, and take it for a test drive. check the front diff. seals because these tend to leak. jack it up and check the front end, and start it a few times to see if fuel pump is good. then see where the oil pressure is at, it should be anywhere from 35-50 PSI and it could be good, last let it warm up and see what it runs at for temp. cuz i bought my ram, and i had to replace fan clutch, waterpump and t-stat 5 days later.

just check those and other tha that, the 318's are tanks my dad got rid of an 96 with 347,XXX and still ra great
